Emma, maker behind the crochet corner

The hands behind the hooks

Hi, I'm Emma.

I turn bright yarn into small creatures, colourful bags and useful little things with big personalities.

Each make is worked by hand in New Zealand. I enjoy the slow process of choosing colours, shaping the pieces and watching an idea become something real.

Where ideas begin

Inspired by the world around me

Ideas can start with a garden visitor, a bright colour combination or an everyday object that could use a little more personality.

Look closely

A bee in the garden, the shape of a tiny animal or a detail noticed on a walk can become the starting point for a new crochet make.

Play with colour

Colour changes the whole mood of a piece. I like trying cheerful combinations and choosing shades that help each character feel lively and individual.

Let it develop

Crochet leaves room for an idea to grow. A shape, expression or small detail may change while I am making it, which is part of the fun.

From idea to finished make

A careful, hands-on process

Every piece moves through the same thoughtful stages, while still leaving space for the design to find its own character.

  1. 01

    Notice and imagine

An animal, colour or useful object sparks an idea for what the next make could become.

  2. 02

    Choose and plan

I select the yarn, colours and proportions, then work out the shapes and details the piece needs.

  3. 03

    Crochet and shape

The design is built stitch by stitch, with small adjustments as the form begins to appear.

  4. 04

    Assemble and finish

Pieces are joined, faces and details are added, and the finished make gets a careful final check.
